Farmer Gets Revenge On McDonald’s For Putting Up Sign (Photos)
A farmer exacted revenge on McDonald’s after the fast food restaurant allegedly cut down his hedge to put up a sign.
After McDonald’s put up a sign advertising their restaurant at a gas station, the farmer stacked hay bales in front of it in an effort to block it from view. The restaurant reportedly cut his hedge next to the road in order to install the sign.
Photos of the hay bales showed the sign being blocked with only a Texaco logo visible – and the Highway organization in England, where the incident occurred, said that they would be unable to act because the sign isn’t theirs. The restaurant and the farmer, the organization said, would need to “sit down and talk it out.”
“We’re aware that his has happened – it’s not something that’s happened within our remit,” a spokesman told the Daily Mail.
A McDonald’s spokesperson also issued a statement to the Daily Mail regarding the incident.
“We’re in discussions with all parties involved to find a resolution,” the statement read.
Many readers supported the farmer, saying that McDonald’s should have spoken with him before cutting down his hedge.
“McDonalds should have talked to the farmer before putting there sign up and maybe things would have gone better ! But the farmer has his right too ! McDonalds acted very stupid in this matter so what ever they get is their own fault,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
“Don’t mess with farmers and don’t go touching any damn thing at all related to his property. He’ll never give up now you’ve offended him. What a bloody silly thing to do,” another Daily Mail reader wrote.
One Daily Mail reader issued a lengthy response to the feud.
“A man’s (person’s) home used to be their castle back in the day but not anymore.. Now we have councils, cities that come up with insane laws and rules that take away the land owners rights without giving that landowner any payback or gratuity. Frankly its gotten way out of hand, Landowners have to hire costly lawyers just to fight back which is so wrong on all levels. Mcdonald’s cutting back this man’s hedges amounts to trespassing and damage to another person’s property so why haven’t they been fined and taken to court to pay this farmer for his losses? We have given away too many of our rights to govts hellbent on doing whatever they please and its wrong.”
